Hope you enjoyed this year’s blog. Please visit our NEW RECEPTION BLOG HERE!
Despite a very wet start to Thursday morning, lots of parents came to visit our Secret Garden project and find out all about the different creative activities that have taken place since the artist, Mark Riley came to work with us in Reception. As you can see from the photographs the children had a great time showing their parents just how busy they have been.
Lots of people admired the arch and made decorations to hang on it.
The plastic flowers looked beautiful with the rain drops on them.
We had to remember to wear safety goggles when hammering.
Exploring the basket of natural resources.
Admiring the mosaic and the den making documentation.
Thank you to everyone that supported our Open Day, the children were very proud of their work and ecxited to have you there sharing in their project.

This week some children have been to the allotment with Mrs Grant and Mrs Roden and tasted some of the produce that is growing there. They walked very sensibly and enjoyed chatting along the way, taking great care when crossing the roads. Mr Hunter came with us too, it was his first trip to the allotments.
Getting ready for our visit.
We walked very sensibly holding a partner’s hand.
Mr Chapman dug up some potatoes for us.
Looking for the potatoes in the soil
The peas tasted yummy.
So did the raspberries!
There were lots of other vegetables and fruit to look at.
Look out for next week’s Blog and what the rest of reception saw at their allotment visit.

We hope to be able to share some of the events above with you.
And Finally…..
This week’s Talking Tips
Be careful with questions.
Too many questions which have a right or wrong answer can stop the conversation. Ask questions which challenge your child to think.
For example
“What can you tell be about this shape?”
Is better than
“What shape is this?”
Rather than criticise, demonstrate the right way.
If your child makes a mistake, just say it the right way.
For example
Child “I goed to the park.”
Adult “Wow, so you went to the park.”

We all enjoyed dressing up for World Book Day. See if you can recognise some of the characters we dressed up as.
Children from Rec B
Children from Rec A
Guess who Miss Foxhall and Mrs Turner dressed up as?
We said a sad goodbye to Miss Tipler and wish her Good Luck in her new school in September.
This week reception have been practising for their sports afternoon on Tuesday 13th July at 1:45pm in the Junior playground. Last week was National Sports week and at 1.20pm on Friday all classes in the school joined in with an Olympic themed dance workout. It was great fun.
Please remember to ensure that your child’s PE kit is in school at all times.
The last few weeks of the term are always very busy and can be a very anxious time for the children. Over the next few weeks they will be meeting their new teachers and visiting their new classrooms. You might find the following Talking Tips especially useful at this time.
Talking Tips
Share daily activities with your child –these provide opportunities for commenting about objects and actions,as well as extending your child’s vocabulary.
Have a special time to talk about the day-this will help your child’s memory skills. It also helps them to talk about things which have happened in the past.
Don’t forget you are invited to meet Year1 staff on Monday 12th July, at a meeting in the hall between 9 :00am and 9.30am.

We hope you had a break and are ready for an exciting last half term before we break up for the summer holidays.
This week we have carried on with our Mini Beast topic. We have built habitats for the creatures and made clay models with Miss Tipler, which we will paint when they have dried out. Look out for some photographs next week.
In our maths lessons we have been thinking about symmetry and looked at the patterns on the wings of a butterfly, before making our own puppets. We used a visualiser to help see the patterns in more detail by projecting the picture onto the Intereractive White Board and the computer screen.
The visualiser helps us see our work on the computer screen and the Interactive White Board.
The finished products. Can you see the symmetrical patterns that have been created?
Looking at the line of symmetry.
We have also been sorting the mini beasts by different criteria, for example, those with wings, those without, those with legs, those without. We had to work with a partner and record our answers on a white board.
Mark our artist came today and built us some musical instruments in the Outdoor Classroom from old pots and pans and other recycled materials. Come and have a look and play a tune.
These children had a great time exploring the different sounds.

Using his tool box is always great fun, but it is very important to remember to wear googles when using the hammer and nails
Remember next Friday we are celebrating ‘ Book Day’ in school and have invited everyone in school (staff and children) to dress up as a character from a story book. Look out for some photos next week.

This week we have been very luck to have Mark, our artist working with us and Year 6 pupils came to play Maths games with us, during our PSRN lesson
The children made clay faces and decorated with natural objects. When they are dry Mark is going to attach them to a wall in the Outdoor Classroom. Some children also used the natural objects to make arrangements and pictures with.
Come and have a look with your child after half term.
Have an enjoyable half term and see you on Monday 7th June. ready for more busy weeks ahead.
Don’t forget your PE kit as we began our practising for our Sports Day later in the term.
Just to remind you when we return after the holiday we are asking children to bring in treasure just once a week on a Friday and would welcome your support in this matter.
Those of you who also look at the Nursery Blog will know that each week a Talking Tip is included in its post. We have decided to do this for Reception due to the very positive response from nursery parents. Hope you find them useful.
Talking Tips
Make it easy for your child to listen and talk –Give your child quiet times without background noise (TVs, music etc)to help them focus on your words. Keep dummies to sleep times.
Thank You
Reception Staff.
